When Miranda gets the call from "On The Edge" magazine telling her that she's won a contest to stay at movie star Byron Slater's California house and get the chance to star in his next movie, she's thrilled. Byron Slater is the hottest topic of teen action-romances, and to be able to spend the week in his house is unbelievable! As soon as she arrives, she senses that Byron has taking a liking to her and he starts confiding in her. He tells her that he thinks that someone might be stalking him and he feels in danger. Then, the sickening "accidents" start. Or are they accidents at all?.....
I thought this book was great! Richie Tankersley Cusick weaved suspense and romance throughout the book just right. I'll probably end up agreeing with the other reviewers in saying that this wasn't the author's best. This was the first book I read by her, and, standing alone, it seems terrific. But, compared to her other books, it might not seem as good. I'll admit, though, that while the book was suspenseful, it was a little predictable and the killer was, too. Other than that, I loved it! Can't wait to read more by her!.....

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2002I read this book in the middle of a traveling basketball season...It's not the greatest idea when I have to play in 5 minutes and I just can't set the book down. I loved how it always kept me on my toes. The end was an awesome surprise. I loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2002While I am forever a fan of Cusick's books, this one was a disappointment...
I had really hoped that this book would be good when I had bought it because I was under the impression that all, or most of her books, were outstanding. I had read Silent Stalker, Vampire, Fatal Secrets, and a few others before I picked up this book. These books were by far a few of her best, in my opinion and I was very anxious when I did bought this book. I couldn't wait to start it, but as I finished the book in a few hours, I wasn't completely satisfied...
Although the book in general was fine, the ending took me by complete surprise. Not because it was shocking and well thought out, but because it was so blatantly obvious and predictable -_-; I had suspected this character from the beginning and I was hoping that there would be some sort of twist because it seemed so obvious from the start of the events. I tried to convince myself that the ending would turn out as good as the rest of her books, but I was disappointed that everything that I had predicted actually happened.
Anyway, this is an okay book if you're reading one of Richie Tankersley Cusick's books for the first time, BUT if you're a devoted fan of her books, then you should avoid this book if you don't want to be disappointed. Although this book isn't her best, don't think that all of her books aren't good because many of her other books, such as Teacher's Pet, Vampire, Silent Stalker, Fatal Secrets, and The Mall are wonderful and have great plots and twist endings! ^_^
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2013too slow in the start of the book to grab my attention. I like the author though and have been very happy with some of his other titles.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2019This one was a confusing read.
It is touted as a thriller but it only reflects that in sprinkles and then fully at the very end.
A girl wins a exclusive trip to meet with a superstar. but instead of suspense, we get a lot of dialogue from a huge cast of characters, most of who are unnecessary.
It was difficult to feel connected to the characters, even the main character, Miranda, as Cusick doesn't give us a good feel for them. There seemed to be a lot more telling than showing.
I found it odd that a pivotal moment was explained off-screen. Miranda's character seems confused the whole time too, jumping to erratic conclusions.
A couple of scary moments take place, but then are quickly forgotten. The story is pretty scattered. At times, we find ourselves suddenly in another location in the next paragraph. While I have enjoyed Cusick's earlier books, this plot felt so staggered, like she wasn't sure what to do with the story.
The end was very confusing. Cusick went back and forth trying to rationalize the causes behind the few strange moments throughout the story, but a clear explanation of the culprit is never made. It's just a tangled mess in the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 1999While reading this book I felt disappointed in the writing. To me, there was too much background detail and talk about Byron and Nick obviously both wanting the lead character, Miranda. The author also decided to throw in way to many other characters like the agent, the publist, the 2 other girls in the contest, the bodyguard, etc. It was distracting to the story with so many characters in the room trying to talk. The ending was predictable and I wasn't surprised at the end. Some of her other books like "Silent Stalker" and "Someone At The Door" were a better read.
